Message from Cagayan de Oro Water District

Hello everyone, to address confusion "No water within 1 month" is not true. As soon as a production well is fixed, COWD will make it operational. We will not wait until next month. Thank you. Please share

Dr. Eric Tayag of DOH: We urge local officials in CDO and Iligan that the bodies NOT be buried in mass graves. It is important that families bury their dead and be able to mourn, it is for their psychological well-being. The bodies do not pose public health hazards. Stench is not an indicator that diseases can spread from dead bodies. It is not true. The bacteria that causes decomposition cannot cause illness among living human beings. As soon as the body dies, organisms that caused illness in that body, are going to die too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Iligan govt. through Cong. Varf Belmonte is doing great in the management of the decomposing cadavers. Building of apartment-style graves made of hollow blocks and cement is ongoing. One cadaver in each sealed compartment with matching descriptions written on the cover should make it easy for relatives to retrieve their dead if they want to...
MANILA -- Where was President Benigno S. Aquino III on Sunday evening, as the people of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities and several other areas in Visayas and Mindanao grappled with the devastation of tropical storm Sendong? Apparently, partying with his security personnel in Malacanang, and laughing and exchanging jokes with actresses.
Deadly mix for disaster
The absence of a flood warning, high tide, darkness and a false sense of security proved disastrous for people of northern Mindanao when Tropical Storm “Sendong” came over the weekend.
Add illegal logging, rapid urbanization and mining, and the result was deadly for residents of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities, government and Red Cross officials said.
Ateneo Innovation Center
Our very own Paul Cabacungan is on a flight going to CDO, Xavier University today at 930am to rapidly deploy solar rain units in order to provide clean drinking water to the people affected by the disaster. He is with thesis student Michael Roa (5BS CoE) who is also a resident. Pray for their success in providing much needed water to the communities affected. The Innovation Center is committed to prepositioning dual use assets such as the Solar Rain Technology to lessen the impact of disasters like this.
After Sendong, 10 things we must do.
In the short-term, in the next 6-9 months, these should be the priorities:
1. We should help affected families and communities, poor or rich or middle class, find closure and stand up on their feet. I stress the importance especially of helping the middle class who were affected, whose needs are unique and less obvious, but nevertheless as important in this disaster. Government presence is key to assure them they have not been abandoned. Continuing relief operations as long as possible are important for that purpose. The infrastructure that was destroyed, such as the water system in Cagayan de Oro, must be repaired quickly. Psychosocial assistance should be provided. The dead, the suffering, and the grieving must be respected and treated with dignity.
